In A Land That No Longer Exists
Written and directed by Aelrun Goette and inspired by her own experiences as a model in 1980s East Berlin, In A Land That No Longer Exists is an enchanting drama about beauty and freedom in the Former GDR.
Summer 1989, a few months before the fall of the Berlin Wall, 18-yearold Suzie (newcomer Marlene Burow) is expelled from school and has to prove herself by working in a cable factory. Photographed one day on her way to work, she is thrown headfirst into the vibrant fashion scene in socialist East Germany when her photo ends up on the cover of ‘Sibylle’, the Vogue of the East.
Here she meets glamourous designer Rudi (Sabin Tambrea, Ku’damm 56, Babylon Berlin) and dives into the dazzling underground fashion design subculture. When she meets and falls for talented yet rebellious photographer Coyote (David Schütter, Never Look Away), her life changes. But as her star rises, Suzie must decide what price she is willing to pay for the freedom she has always dreamed of.
